Berridge Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown 2009

A dark and powerful Pinot, it is immediately expressive out of the glass with notes of cherry, plum, and toasted almonds. The palate is silky smooth and delivers wave upon wave of plum, cranberry, and blood orange. The finish is sensational with layers of fruit, spice, and hints of oak. Gorgeous now, it will continue to age well for another 3-5 years.

Berridge Wine Company Winery

Richard Berridge is the legendary co-founder of Duckhorn Vineyards and renowned landscape architectect responsible for many of Napa and Sonoma's finest estates including cult wineries Harlan and Marcassin, as well as the opulent Meadowood resort in Napa Valley. Berridge also produces miniscule amounts of extraordinary Pinot Noir from California's northern coast. Berridge is probably not on the radar of Pinot collectors yet, due to their tiny production, but we predict that once word gets out, these wines will become impossible to obtain.

According to Kosta Browne, the Gap's Crown vineyard is "the backbone of our Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. The vineyard produces intense fruit." This vineyard is the prized source of that cult winery’s Sonoma Coast Pinot which garnered the #1 "Wine of the Year" by Wine Spectator and now sells for $200+. In fact, this prestigious property will soon be designated as Kosta Browne's estate vineyard!
