The 2022 Ma Princesse is one of the most deftly-balanced editions of this bottling I’ve tasted over the last decade plus. Long a favorite of those who enjoy California Chardonnay at its most full-bodied and luscious, its captivating texture and richness here are kept in place this year by a spine of racy lemon and tangerine. To have a mouthful of this to swish around is to simply luxuriate in the layers of flavors and sensations it provides one after the other: basketfuls of ripe citrus, white peach, apple skin, baking spices… One expects the finish to show a mouth-coating oak but instead there’s just waves of bright ripe fruit with lingering creaminess and a strong urge to enjoy another sip. Morlet is at the top of his game here this is simply stunning juice. I am conservatively giving this 99+ points but anyone lucky enough to enjoy a bottle will likely find it to be flawless.
