Torc: Sean O’Toole’s latest success

Posted 10 years ago by admin

As one of the most prestigious and high-caliber food scenes in the country, Napa is not an easy town to impress. But head chef and proprietor Sean O’Toole’s Torc has been capturing the hearts of locals and tourists alike since its opening in November of 2013. O’Toole, returned to the Napa culinary scene from stints at Quince, Cotogna, the Mina Group and most recently Hopper Creek Kitchen, made the leap and opened Torc as his solo restaurant, inhabiting one of the most charming dining rooms in the state. This picturesque space, which formerly housed Ubuntu, boasts 30+ foot ceilings, rustic exposed brick walls, and seating for over 100, creating a richly historic ambiance throughout a spacious 4200 square feet.

The Gaelic word for “wild boar,” Torc is a tribute to O’Toole’s Irish heritage, and features a contemporary American menu. O’Toole catches the attention of foodies and hungry passersby alike by offering a diverse array of hearty yet elegant entrees at moderate prices. Roasted chicken with preserved lemon and fennel, Sonoma County raised Lamb, Boar Tortellini and Maine Lobster Risotto are a few of the piquant dishes on the menu.

Not only is O’Toole dominating the food scene, his wine list is the most eclectic in all of Napa County. It features over 80 wines by the bottle and a wine-by-the-glass list that, in a rare feat, leaves us wine snobs with no complaints. By-the-glass offerings generously include Davueneau Silex Sauvignon Blanc, which has reached cult status and is difficult to acquire even by the bottle. Torc encompasses the class, beauty and hospitality that Napa is known for and is definitely worth visiting next time you’re in wine country.
