Cupano Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015

WOW! This monumentally satisfying Brunello is a show-stopper, just now approaching its drinking window after a few years of cellar time. Launching forth with a fanfare of savory herbs plus layers upon layers of ripe red fruit, smoky oak, flowers and chocolate. The palate is luxuriously rich, with awe-inspiring notes of red and black cherries, tobacco, dried flowers, spices and olive tapenade. Wonderful acidity and firm tannins to balance well with rich pasta ragout or grilled meats. The most complete and complex new Brunello we have discovered in many moons and THE vintage to get for your cellar. Decant briefly prior to 2025 and enjoy through 2030+. – April 2023

Cupano Winery

Ornella Tondini and Lionel Cousin moved to Montalcino from Paris with their daughter Orsa during the 90s. Ornella was a journalist at L'Autre Journal, while Lionel worked as filmmaker and director of photography.

Cupano's first vintage was the 2000. Since the beginning, the intent was to produce wines for aging, in a true French style, seeking for evolution, elegance and complexity. Lionel was born in Cognac but educated to wine in Burgundy, where he was introduced by Jacky Rigaux among the acolytes of Henri Jayer, whose winemaking philosophy was taken as a reference: limited hectares, meticulous care of the vines, indigenous yeasts, aging on the fine lees in barriques bourguignonnes, no filtration, no clarification.
