Alma Rioja by Finca Egomei 2005

Deep and dark in the glass, this monumental achievement embodies the proverbial Wow factor exclusive to the world’s finest red wines! Aromatic notes of espresso, dark chocolate and ripe cherry captivate the senses from the beginning. The dazzling palate is deeply concentrated with a galaxy of enticing, mouth coating flavors that include baking spices, molten chocolate, plum, cherry and creamy blueberry plus a hint of cinnamon on the satisfying finish. Due to the presence of exquisitely balanced tannins and a wonderful core of minerality oenophiles may enjoy this wine tonight (after decanting) or cellar it for another 5+ years. – from Wine Advocate’s Jay Miller The luxury cuvee, the 2005 Egomei Alma is 75% Tempranillo and 25% Graciano also sourced from a single vineyard. It went through malolactic fermentation in new French oak with three months in contact with the lees and then spent 18 months in new French oak. glass-staining saturated purple color; it reveals a superb aromatic array of pain grille, espresso roast, lavender, mineral, blackberry, and black cherry. Opulent on the palate, it is thick, rich, extracted, and intensely flavored. Gobs of spicy fruit conceal enough tannin to support 5-7 years of further cellaring. This hedonistic, lengthy Rioja will have a drinking window extending from 2015 to 2025. Wine Advocate #183, June 2009
